B. Market approach

The worldwide market of medical laser represents approximatively 2,5 billion € per annum. In France, this market represents 1,6% of the global market, in constant development of 12% per annum. On this market, we must distinguish three major families of devices corresponding to sub-markets separated: the “surgery” sub-market, the “ophthalmology” sub-market and the “aesthetic” sub-market.

JMDThèque technology will be limited to “surgery” and “aesthetic” sub-markets, the “ophthalmology” sub-market being very closed and occupied by highly specialized companies. The “surgery” sub-market is growing rapidly because of the appearance of fiber lasers (Nd:YAG, Ho:YAG, diode…), corresponding perfectly to the requests of surgeons wishing to make the less possible invasive surgery (development of endoscopic techniques in varicose veins treatment for example). The “aesthetic” sub-market is especially turned towards dermatologists, angiologists or plastic surgeons in their medical practices. The applications are numerous and concern for example the wrinkles / acne / stretch marks / scars / pigmentary spots attenuation, the cutaneous resurfacing, the rosacea / varicose veins treatment, or the permanent hair / tattoo removal. This sub-market is currently operated by companies such as Lumenis, Quantel Medical, Dornier Medtech, or Candela offering one laser type (CO2, Erbium, YAG, or Alexandrite…) integrated into manual console table. None of these companies proposes a computer-aided device having a wide range of functionalities able to treat several skin problems.


JMDThèque offers attractive participation to Partners interested by the potential of development of this technology applied to Biomedical.

Memo: BreizhTech Company (who unfortunately ceased activity in july 2009) was established on May 2005 by Jean-Marc Desaulniers, Montreal Polytechnic graduated (Electrical Engineering- 1988) and Laval University (Biochemistry degree-1984). He has an international experience of 20 years in multimedia telecommunications, from R&D to Projects Direction. He held down the position of “Partnership Officer” for Alcatel mobile network division (North America) in his last job at Alcatel Lucent, and sales engineer. He was European Vice President of IMS Forum « Internet Multimédia Subsystem » in 2005-2006. His team consists of young engineers in France and Quebec in mechanics, optics, electronics and real-time embedded software. Several high-level personalities have joined him in 2007 in an « Advisory Board », helping him in strategic, marketing and financial terms. He has established partnerships with ebm papst (high precision motors), Thomson Multimedia (Futurimage Consortium), and a network of subcontractors for mechanical and optical realization. BreizhTech, Bretagne Entreprendre 2006 winner, has received support from OSEO Anvar from 2005 to 2007 (150 k€), and will receive assistance from Regional Council and Lannion-Trégor Agglomération (480 k€ in 2008-2009). JMDThèque Company (created in may 2007 by Jean-Marc Desaulniers) dedicated more specifically to R&D activities is now pursuing the R&D and Business Development effort initiated by BreizhTech, on every addressable market segments.

D. Financing

JMDThèque proposes participation conditions open to Partners interested in the development potential of this important technology.

A. Offer presentation

JMDThèque’s offer consists to integrate its laser technology in a new computer-aided skin treatments device. The computer assistance in real-time of  such device is a wordwide first.

This new skin treatments device is equipped with several laser sources (of specific wavelengths and optical powers) allowing notably:

- the wrinkles / acne / stretch marks / scars extenuation by cutaneous resurfacing (skin surface layers destruction),
- the permanent hair removal (hirsutism or aesthetic), the varicose veins / rosacea treatment,
- the cutaneous pigmentary spots attenuation or tattoo removal.

Equipped with the « Digital Beam Engine™ » (DBE, JMDThèque/BreizhTech patented system), which incorporates the latest technological performances in terms of real-time softwares and embedded electronics, the device allows an ultra-precise control and scanning of several laser sources used in parallel on any cutaneous area to treat. Coupled with a pattern recognition system (wrinkle, hair, spots…), laser beams are focused with an extreme precision and fastness. A large number of located skin lesions (more or less important wide) is reduced or eliminated in a specific way while leaving the surrounding skin intact. The practitioner is no longer forced to use handpieces to treat skin area: he is computer-aided, and the DBE automatically performs the major part of the treatment to minimize practitioner’s interventions. He can quickly achieve several skin treatments in a precise and safety way.

This new skin treatment device is equipped, besides, of a computer-aided lesions preliminary analysis. The lasers parameters used (wavelength, energy, exposure time…) are thus predetermined following the skin pigmentation analysis, the hair colour analysis or the type and form of lesions (wrinkle, stretch marks…). This computer-aided analysis guides the practitioner to choose the most appropriate laser treatment to be carried out. Side effects of classical laser treatments currently used are thus largely attenuated.

In skin care, the use of laser technologies is widely approved by dermatologists and plastic surgeons. Having tools to enhance the effectiveness and safety of treatments is essential. The use of medical laser devices, computer-aided and allowing a wide range of functionalities specific to a particular skin care (wavelength, power, exposure time…), will be a tremendous progress in the skin treatment.

The JMDThèque patented laser technology allows, via optomechanical systems in motion, to operate a synchronous multibeam laser scanning (in a wide range of optical power/wavelength and in real-time), and thus meet professionals expectations in skin treatments.
